What a translation vendor needs from you (and what they do not)

Good vendors are easy to work with when you give them three things: context, terminology, and a realistic schedule.

Context

A reference PDF, a short description of the audience, and the tone you expect. Five minutes of writing saves hours of queries.

Terminology

See our terminology story. A glossary, even a short one, prevents most of the back and forth.

Schedule

Translation is roughly 2,000 words per linguist per day. Review takes as long as you let it. Plan both.

What they do not need

  • Your InDesign file with every image embedded
  • A phone call for every question
  • Three people giving contradictory feedback
